Ernst Ludwig Siegmund Lauer founded the coinage company "Nürnberger Medaillenmünze" in 1790 at the address Kleinweidenmühle 12. Ludwig Christoph Lauer took over the business from his father, Johann Jakob Lauer, and founded Münzprägeanstalt L.Chr.Lauer in 1860. It was later managed by his three sons, Johann, Ludwig, and Wolfgang, with a branch in Berlin.
