Jln. Surabaya (Surabaya Road) is a traditional-styled flea market, selling antiques, and some stalls sell coins and some banknotes. The coins are mostly old worn Dutch colonial coins, some old post-independence Indonesian ones or maybe Chinese cash coins. However be aware of fakes as some stalls do sell them. The banknotes are also mostly old Indonesian ones, but a few do sell banknotes from other nations. It is also rare to find a banknote/coin in UNC condition, as all the products are catching dust and have been circulated for years.

It is best to negotiate the price, as the sellers could put it at a very costly price. Also, remain calm and do not act like you’re in a hurry, as this could also cause the product(s) you chose to be set at a higher cost.

To sum things up, Jln. Surabaya is a good place to buy souvenirs and some numismatic items for foreigners and locals. Just remain respectful, be aware of fakes, and not to forget about unfairly increased prices, then you’ll have a good time there!

The place is quite expensive for the average local but for foreigners it's a place where you can quietly enjoy the very cheap antiques. they sell their banknotes and coins in the front row where buyers can see then purchased the item, the sellers are rude but that only happens when their stuff is being touched without permission, as long you keep in the right track don't touch their stuff without permission then bargain the price, you'll enjoy the place. Most of the sellers can speak 4 to 5 foreign languages' so it's easy to speak to them without using a translator, the antiques can be even as old as the 15th to 14th century.
